On Friday, we held our second bargaining session with United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Local 324, the union representing our Orange County-based AMAs.
WHAT WE COVERED
Typically, labor contracts include both economic and non-economic clauses. Economic clauses are more directly related to pay and benefits whereas non-economic clauses are not. This negotiation session was largely focused on the non-economic clauses in the contract proposal put forth by the union.
We reached a tentative agreement on several non-economic terms in the contract:
- Which employees are in the bargaining unit
- General processes around progressive discipline
- The probationary period for new or transferred employees
- How we define “seniority”
- Severance terms for laid off employees
We had a productive discussion about some of the remaining non-economic clauses and requested some additional information from the union. Likewise, the union requested additional information from us, which we committed to have to them by September 20, ahead of our next scheduled negotiation session on September 23.
We look forward to making further progress on the contract and remain committed to bargaining in good faith, and to building a productive relationship with the union.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Our next session will be Monday, September 23. We also committed to additional sessions on November 7 and 22. We look forward to continuing to bargain in good faith so we can reach a contract that best supports our Orange County based AMAs and the sustainability of our organization.
